How It All Began

I'm a San Francisco native and a lifelong athlete.

As a youngster, I excelled in basketball, powerlifting, bodybuilding, running, playing ultimate frisbee, and swimming (not to brag, or anything…).

I wanted to always improve my performance (and know how to help myself whenever I tore a ligament or twisted an ankle).

And so, this stubborn desire to learn everything I could about the body followed me around wherever I went.

Many years of education later, becoming a qualified orthopedic physical therapist and movement expert was the happy result.

I had extensive experience in physical therapy clinics. I did not like what I saw. I knew they were not treating patients effectively. And I wanted to help.

I wanted to give people the tools to pain-proof their bodies that in-person therapists don’t have time to teach.

I wanted to help people understand the need to treat their whole body, not just the part they had X-rayed.

I wanted people to stop having to return for the same pain for months and years on end.

And so, Flex With Doctor Jay was born.

Since then, my team and I have helped hundreds of people shed their prescribed identities as chronic pain sufferers, through personalized physical therapy programs.

Because once you’re connected to the power of controlling your own pain, you find real freedom.

It’s understanding your own body in a way no one else ever could. A level of expertise on your own muscles and mobility that would make your GP blush.

It’s having confidence in saying “NO MORE” to the stuff that’s never gonna work for you - the osteo, the chiro, the massage, the pain meds.

Become the expert of your own pain and never need anyone or anything else to try (and fail) to solve it again.

I have been a physical therapist for 7 years now and have been a part of the Flex With Doctor Jay team for 2 years.

I’ve always loved movement and helping people achieve their movement goals, so I started out as a personal trainer.

As much as I enjoyed watching the transformations I helped people achieve, I found there was a limit to my knowledge that didn’t allow me to help some of my clients with pain, injuries, or stiffness.

So I studied to become a physical therapist to expand on my expertise of the human body and the science of physical rehabilitation.


My favorite thing about working with clients in the Pain Free Academy is really getting to know people and their goals and seeing them make amazing progress toward those goals.

Each person is different and their stories are unique to them, so no two people’s journeys with the Pain Free Academy ever look exactly the same. I love that!
